World Premiere: Jay Willa – Vowels f/ Kojo

Brooklyn MC Jay Willa drops “Vowels” as an ode to the lovers on Valentine’s Day. Dishing out some smooth bars and witty punchlines, this reminded me of the backward hats, performance shots on the imported cars, and fun, intimate scenes with a beautiful female costar I loved from the early 2000s. Starting off like he’s just meeting a women for the first time, and ending like he’s been with her forever, is a great progression logically over the fun and light production. Expertly done, this track is just the first of his upcoming project and I hope it gets a video.

Each verse gets more and more personal until the hook lines up perfectly, and the fun adlibs carry you until the end. With singer Kojo on the track, sounding out some of the most important letters of the alphabet hasn’t sounded quite like this in some time.
