SXSW 2017 Recap: What You Missed From Austin’s Festival

Universal Music Group

Another “you should have been there” set was Universal Music’s series of showcases “Music is Universal”. A three-day event, the notable music group took over Antone’s nightclub with 30 hand selected artists. From Dave East to Bibi Bourelly, they kept the talent home-grown showing off just why they’ll always be one of music’s most notable names.

For Universal’s Friday night show PUMA kept the Snapchat filter and photo booth popping as the bar kept the Budweiser stocked. With four acts on the lineup, fans waited in angst as Dreezy, Denzel Curry, Lil Yachty and Metro Boomin took the stage. High energy from beginning to end, the quad put on a memorable show with the standouts hailing from Chicago and Florida.

Holding it down as the only woman on the lineup Chi Town’s princess, Dreezy opened the show and set the bar extremely high for the guys following her. Accompanied by two flawless dancers, Dreezy took the crowd through a playlist of fan favorites including “We Gon Ride” and “Body” as she showed just why the Midwest is up for the “home of hip-hop” title.

Not to be ignored is Carol City’s own Denzel Curry. In a two-piece sweatsuit, Curry went Super Saiyan on the crowd with an energetic set and a back bend that would make any yogi envious. Despite his complex in delivery, front row fans recited the emcee’s hit “ULT” bar for bar during his half hour set.
