Source 360: Unsigned Hype Recap

Summer is officially over and there was no better way to end it than a jam packed press weekend with Source Magazine for their 1st annual Source 360 festival. The weekend featured panels including media heavywights like Karen Civil and the highlight of the weekend, an iconic concert at the Barclays Center with performances from Wu Tang, Lil Kim and many more.

Before the concert, I checked out Source 360’s Unsigned Hype competition which promised some dope up and coming spittas competing for a chance to open up for Wu Tang. Featuring some TakeOvah favorites including Wordsmiff, Lafayette Stokely, Denzil Porter and Kris Kasanova, the competition was 3 hours of non stop bars (along with a brief intermission with a killer set by Selector Sean). Each rapper had 1 chance to perform an original song and win over a Hip Hop loving crowd and a tough panel of judges (including Trey Songz’s producer Amadeus).

I’m glad I wasn’t seated at the judges table because these cats didn’t make it easy! Taking the crown and the coveted opening act for Wu Tang was Denzil Porter!  Major congrats to Denzil and shout out to everyone that touched the stage.

Take a look at the event from behind our lens and stay tuned! We’ll be catching up with a few of the performers very soon =)
