It’s a great time for rap, rap groups especially, so I’ve been combing for new groups and Flatbush artists NYC Law$ keeps it Brooklyn with their debut project Law$ of Life. Complete with skits and bars upon bars, we see a lot of scenarios play out over some boom bap production that’ll get any hip hop lover stuck in the traditional head bopping. I love how all three artists didn’t force themselves onto every song, making tracks like “Come Get It” and “The Plan” mix things up a little, and make the rest of the project shine brighter. Projects like this further the fact that rapping rappers aren’t going to roll over in the underground, or in mainstream. This is a smooth throwback to an earlier, younger age of rap.
ShowGen Law$, Chaad Law$, and Kalonji Law$ have given us a great feeling piece of work, reminiscent of an younger age of Hip Hop. Every once in a while we need a reminder that the youth can deliver bodies of work that can take us back, I haven’t felt quite like this since Joey Bada$$‘s “1999” I hear that these young men can take this farther and further, and I’ll be listening.
