Event Recap: G-Eazy, Kool John, Kehlani & Jay Ant- From the Bay to the Universe Tour

When G-Eazy comes to your city, rain or shine expect 3 things:

                     1. A sold out venue

                     2. A staggering number of screaming women and equally enamored men.

                     3. The desire to pack your bags and move to the West Coast once the show is over.

That’s what happened last night when Bay area rapper G-Eazy headlined a show at the legendary Webster Hall in NYC. If you missed it because you were watching Christina Milian’s new show on E!, well you would’ve been better off DVRing it.

The sold out event; one leg of the “From the Bay to the Universe” tour, featured some west coast favorites and many familiar faces. For starters, the HBK Gang repped heavy for their home state. As DJ’s spun some popular HBK hits such as “Red Nose” by Sage the Gemini, the crowd bounced and sang along as they waited for the talents to hit the stage.

Opening the show was rapper Kool John,

who hyped the crowd with a few cuts from his newest project Shmop City. Including his hit “B*tch I Look Good”, Kool John’s explosive energy and engaging performance made for a great opener and proved the night was going to be solid.  Also blessing the stage was HBK heartthrob Jay Ant. The only artist to pull a lady on stage during a performance, Jay’s undeniable sex appeal had the women in the audience going absolutely berserk. For the fellas that went to the show with your girlfriend, after Jay’s performance she was no longer yours bruh.

You know HBK wouldn’t head on a tour without their leading lady and rising superstar Kehlani. Admitting to it being her 1st tour ever, the 19 year old songstress managed to grab an audience of Hip Hop heads and put them on Cloud 19, serenading the crowded room with flawless vocals and tutorial worthy dance moves. Flaunting some rock hard abs, Kehlani opened up with “Get Away”, followed by a special performance of “How We Do Us” featuring Kyle Dion. Kyle’s appearance was a surprise, and the two revealed it was their 1st time performing  the popular song together. With even more surprises up her sleeve, the singer revealed that she’ll be releasing a new mixtape in March (Thank you music Gods) and debuted a new song from the project; “Touch the Sky” (tbd).  We’ll be on the look out for that.

Last but certainly not least, the headliner and the man of the night was of course G- Eazy. He sold out 2 shows at Webster Hall for a reason. Before he touched the stage, crowd chants of “Gerald” rang through the venue. Taking us through recent hits including “Monica Lewinsky”, G-Eazy had the club going up…on a Sunday.

Overall it was an incredibly dope show by G-Eazy, Jay-Ant, Kehlani and Kool John and I was glad to spend  my rainy Sunday at Webster Hall. They certainly showed us how they do it in The Bay. Needless to say, my bags are packed and I’m ready to head to Cali.  I wonder if the Tsunami Mob has room in the Sprinter for me.
