These days in music, it seems like groups are becoming more and more a thing of the past.
Fortunately in the world of hip-hop, duos are becoming a thing of the future, and it seems like they are rising to the top even further each year.
Today, we have duos such as Rae Sremmurd and Rich Gang, who are able to captivate audiences by each member equally.
Let me introduce to you #GCF. These two are a duo from Dallas that consist of members Krux, who is 18 years old, and Chriswithadot, who is 19 years old.
These guys are ready to prove that they have what it takes to bring a little Texas flavor to the hip-hop duo scene, as well as give the other lyricists out a run for their money.
I got a chance to hear from #GCF, where they told me about their background story, their thoughts on the Southern music scene right now, and more!
Check out the interview below, and listen to their music here.
Tell me a bit about your guys’ background story, and how you got into music.
We go by #GCF, which means “Greatest Common Factors.” Our families we’re involved in music, so we feel that’s where our music background comes from.
How did you guys link up?
We linked up during our sophomore year of high school at Rowlett High School. We had the same 4th period, and we were showing each other our music. From then on, we started making music together, and a year or so after, we made the duo #GCF, and now we’re here.
How do you feel about the Texas music scene, and even Southern music in general?
The Texas and Southern music scene is okay, but we feel it’s viewed as more of a dance scene overall. But over the past couple of years, I feel we’re breaking that stigma, and we’re bringing reality rap to the game.
Do you think the South is rising back on top?
From what I’ve seen over the past couple of years, we could say yes because we feel its a new age coming up, and it’s more to be said, as well as more people trying to benefit the listeners more, instead of just giving them a beat to move their body to without a message.
Where does #GCF come from?
We started in Rowlett, TX, but we are looking to be future moguls.
What’s your recipe to having a successful studio session together?
A great studio session would include good vibes, great ideas, diversity, and being experimental while in the studio because if it’s the same routine, it’ll get dull. A huge part of making music is to have fun.
Who have been some of your guys’ biggest influences?
We could say when we started, Dizzy Wright, Kendrick Lamar, and Dom Kennedy had an influence on our music.
If you could team up with anyone, who would it be?
What’s up next for you guys?
In 2015, we have our first #GCF project releasing, dope visuals, as well as bigger moves being made.
